Elon Musk has warned that artificial intelligence (AI) could lead to “civilizations destruction.”
On March 22, 2023, Musk and more than 1,800 others joined in signing an open letter calling for a six-month pause in the “out of control” race for AI development.
ChatGPT is the brainchild of OpenAI, an artificial intelligence research company that was co-founded by Elon Musk.
ChatGPT was released in November 2022 and within a few days, more than a million people were tryhing it out. By February 2023 it had reached 100 million monthly users and 30 million daily users.
For the time being, ChatGPT is free, but in January 2023 they added a paid version that responds faster.
ChatCPT takeds search engines to a new level by composing content in response to questions. Chat GPT has scored 70% on lawyer bar exams, 78% on New York senior high school chemistry exams, and writes better than most high school students.
OpenAI has developed products that can have human-like conversations, compose songs, and summarize lenthy documents.
The signers of the open letter caling for a pause in AI development believe that it would be prudent to pause the race to implement government regulation and safety protocols.
According to Musk, while it is not fun to be regulated, if AI takes control, it would be too late to put regulations in place.
